What is Restorative Dental Care?

Any procedure that aims to restore the normal function and appearance of your smile would be classified as restorative dental care.

By addressing structural problems such as missing or damaged teeth, our dentist can help to restore your smile – and your oral health.

Depending on your issue, the dentist at Delta Dental Offices can determine a suitable restorative treatment option for you.

Periodontal (Gum) Therapy

Gum disease can attack the tissues of the mouth, including the periodontal ligament, cementum, alveolar bone, gingiva, and gums. If your dentist detects this disease in its early stages, non-surgical preventive therapy may be recommended. Otherwise, the type and severity of the disease will determine treatment methods.

Dental Crowns

Crowns can help to restore a stained or discoloured tooth to its natural appearance. The dentist will place these porcelain caps on top of your teeth. They can also be used to prevent a cracked tooth from further deteriorating, attach bridges or cover dental implants. Crowns may be used to correct different types of tooth damage.

Dental Bridges

Custom-made bridges are bonded to existing teeth or dental implants to replace a section of missing teeth. These tooth replacements are attached to teeth on either side of the gap. They may be difficult to notice to the casual observer and can restore the bite between upper and lower teeth, in addition to the natural contour of teeth.

Dental Fillings

Fillings are used to repair damage to teeth, such as cracks or cavities. While composite (tooth-coloured) fillings can withstand moderate pressure from the continual stress of chewing and can be used on front and back teeth, silver amalgam fillings are more durable. However, they are typically reserved for back teeth.

Root Canals

Diseased tissues, blood vessels and nerves may need to be removed from the interior of a tooth. To accomplish this, the dentist at Delta Dental Offices will perform a root canal. By removing bacteria and decay, your dentist can help stop the infection from spreading and potentially prevent the need for an extraction or more oral health issues later.

Inlays & Onlays

Sometimes, tooth damage is too extensive for a standard dental filling, and inlays and onlays are one solution to repair cavities. These tooth-coloured porcelain fillings are custom-made in a dental laboratory, then cemented to the tooth.

Full & Partial Dentures

Dentures are artificial teeth that may allow patients with missing teeth to maintain their facial structure, and to speak and chew properly. They are a treatment option that can be used to replace one missing tooth or several in a row (partial dentures), or an entire jaw of missing teeth (full dentures).

TMJ Disorder Treatment

The temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) is a hinge joining your skull's temporal bones to your jaw. Disorder in this joint can lead to numerous issues with your facial muscles and jaw, including painful symptoms. Our dentists can detect, diagnose, and provide a treatment plan for TMJ Disorder.
